I recently finished a mural that was definitely a learning experience for me. This project stretched me in several ways. With every painting and mural project I do I learn so much. It’s always good to try new things and get out of your comfort zone, and I definitely did that with this project. This mural is in the stairwell at the new ALX Community co-working space in Old Town. Below is a sketch of the idea, and you can see it come to life through the photos I took during and after painting it.It was my first experience with scaffolding, and I gotta say, not a fan. Maybe there is different scaffolding that isn’t so scary, I don’t know. It was high, hard to crawl around on, and scary AF. I was so happy to be done with the scaffolding part and do the rest of it on my ladder.I was painting probably a little too fast as this mural took 2x as long as I thought it would to finish. It always takes longer. I ended up falling off my ladder and pink paint went everywhere and all up in my hair. Note to self, wash paint out of hair immediately…it’s way harder to get it out later. Took me an hour since I was trying not to pull my hair out! I’m fine, some bruises, but no major injuries from falling off the ladder.I’m pretty happy with the final result. I think all artists have things in their head and they turn out differently or not as good as they think they will.
